An artistic exchange blending paper, clay and architectural design elements.
This exhibition explores an artistic exchange between two local Ipswich artists, Andrea Baumert Howard and Donalee Moriarty, who principally use the mediums of paper and clay respectively. Their visual language focuses on architectural design elements, with both connecting and divergent interpretation that creates unique and geometrically influenced sculptural works.
Baumert Howard employs a range of mediums, including handmade recycled paper, to uncover and document the intricate beauty of historical pressed metal ceiling patterns, and to reflect a deep connection to the environmental concerns of mindful resource reuse.
Moriarty predominantly uses clay slabs, coils and wheel thrown components, which are saggar-fired multiple times to achieve a depth of surface texture that creates an incongruence between the structured form and volatility of surface treatment.
Where is the Ipswich Community Gallery?
The Community Gallery is located in d’Arcy Doyle Place in a separate building to the Ipswich Art Gallery. The entrance to the Community Gallery building is on the corner of Limestone & Nicholas Streets (opposite the Ipswich Civic Centre).
