Ipswich Art Gallery is located in the heart of the Ipswich CBD. Our public entrance is in d’Arcy Doyle Place, a pedestrian section of Nicholas Street between Brisbane and Limestone Streets.

Admission

Admission is free unless stated otherwise. 

Major exhibitions may attract an entry fee and this information will be clearly stated within the program details.

The Gallery happily accepts Companion Cards upon purchase of tickets when required.

Ipswich City Council, and its contractors or agents, may take photographs, sound recordings and video recordings at gallery events. For full details please read our Collection and Consent Notice.

Please note the Gallery may close periodically to install major exhibitions.


Conditions of entry

Backpacks, large bags, umbrellas and any other item (as directed by Ipswich Art Gallery Staff) must be checked in to the cloakroom upon entry to the Gallery.

General photography of the Gallery is permitted however, the use of tripods, selfie sticks, flash or lighting equipment is not permitted.

Food and drinks aren’t permitted in the Gallery.

Adults must, at all times, supervise children for whom you are responsible and ensure that they don’t breach any of our Conditions of Public Entry.

Visiting as a group? 

The Gallery welcomes group visits, including excursions from school groups.

Getting here

Travelling by car

From Brisbane:

  • Take the Ipswich Central exit from the Ipswich Motorway.
  • Follow Brisbane Road past Queens Park. It becomes Limestone Street as you enter the Ipswich CBD.
  • As you pass through three sets of traffic lights, you will see on the left the large white building of the Ipswich Civic Centre.
  • Directly opposite on the left is the pedestrian-only zone of d’Arcy Doyle Place.
  • The entry to the Ipswich Art Gallery is located halfway along d’Arcy Doyle Place.

Please note: Brisbane and Limestone Streets are open to one way traffic only.

Car parking

The Gallery does not have its own parking. Here are your options for parking nearby:

Metered on-street parking is on Limestone Street, Nicholas Street and Brisbane Street. Street parking is free on the weekends; please check signs for details.

Ipswich CBD Parking is beneath Tulmur Place in the Nicholas Street Precinct and offers free parking for up to 3 hours on weekdays. On weekends parking is free. The car park entry is located on Bremer Street which runs parallel to the Bremer River.

To reach the Gallery from the Ipswich CBD car park:

  • Take the lift up to the GROUND level into Tulmur Place / Nicholas Street Precinct and walk south up to the traffic lights crossing Brisbane St.
  • Cross Brisbane Street and walk into d’Arcy Doyle Place.
  • The entry to the Ipswich Art Gallery is located halfway along d’Arcy Doyle Place.

Travelling by train

The Gallery is a short walk from the Ipswich Railway Station as well as bus stops. If travelling by train, alight at Ipswich Station. The Gallery is a 4-minute walk from the station. Walk left up Bell Street, right onto Brisbane Street and left onto d’Arcy Doyle Place. Visit TRANSlink for service and timetable information.

Coach drop-off

Coaches must drop off passengers in loading zones near the Gallery, and then park elsewhere for the duration of the visit. Passengers can then be collected from these loading zones once a pick up time has been confirmed.

The nearest drop off zones to the Gallery are on Limestone Street opposite d’Arcy Doyle Place, and on Nicholas Street opposite the Civic Centre.

Parking is available next to Timothy Molony Park on Ellenborough Street.
