Expressions of Interest for the Ipswich Art Workshop are open for August - October 2026

Calling All Creatives – The Ipswich Art Workshop Wants You!

Ipswich Art Workshop is an accessible and welcoming multi-use, hands-on workspace, open to supporting a variety of arts-based initiatives.

As a Council-owned venue available for hire, Ipswich Art Workshop provides opportunities for creatives and arts organisations to forge connections within community through a variety of innovative and diverse visual arts projects.

Applications are now open for Community Workshops & Meetups: 

13 April 2026Applications Open

15 May 2026 – Applications Close 

1 June 2026 – Successful applicants notified 

August 2026 Community Workshops & Meetups commence. 

Access support is available. Please email info@ipswichartgallery.qld.gov.au if a conversation, additional information, or alternative support submitting your Expression of Interest is needed.

Workshops & Meetups @ IAW

Are you an artist, maker, or creative thinker with a passion to share? Step into a space built for imagination, collaboration, and community. The Ipswich Art Workshop is inviting you to lead your own classes, workshops, or creative meetups from August - October 2026. 

This is your chance to help shape Ipswich’s vibrant arts scene - on your own terms.

What’s Included:

● Half-day or full-day hire of the Ipswich Art Workshop space.

● Private access during your session.

● Full control over your ticketing and income.

● Marketing support through Ipswich Community Gallery socials, Discover Ipswich, and council newsletters.

● Access to a presentation screen, easels, storage and unlimited tea & coffee.

● Access to the Ipswich Art Workshop's equipment, including a printing press and clay roller (hirer orientation required before use).

● A rewarding opportunity to earn from your creativity while giving back to your local community.

Hire Rates*:

Half Day (up to 4 hours): $80 (incl. GST)

Full Day (up to 8 hours): $150 (incl. GST)

20% discount available for community groups (located in the Ipswich LGA)

You'll be notified of your application outcome two weeks after the closing date.

Please note: Applications are currently open for workshops running from August - October 2026 only. Stay tuned for updates on sessions from Feb 2027 onwards.

Assessment Criteria


  • Clarity - Clear and cohesive proposal outlining proposed planning and outcomes. 
  • Innovation - High level of aesthetic values and understanding.
  • Quality - Examples of work or programming that demonstrates experience in producing safe and high-quality outcomes.
  • Curatorial - Relevance to community interests, other concurrent exhibitions or city events programming.
  • Diversity - Preference will be given to applicants who have not hired the Workshop in the past EOI round.

Accessibility

Wheelchair Access: 

  • The Ipswich Art Workshop is wheelchair accessible via the folding doors at the front of the building. The side entrance to the Ipswich Art Workshop is not currently fully wheelchair accessible. 
  • The Ipswich Art Workshop can be accessed via d'Arcy Doyle Place, via the ramp entry on the left of the building. 

Furniture:

  • The Ipswich Art Workshop contains four 150 x 60 cm height adjustable tables (52, 58, 64, 70, and 76 cm high), which can be moved around the space. The central, wooden bench is affixed in place. There is an additional sit-stand, adjustable height desk in the storage area.

Restroom Facilities: 

  • There is a Men’s bathroom with stalls and urinals. There is a Women’s bathroom with stalls.
  • There is an accessible bathroom available via key access. However, this toilet is not suitable for all accessibility needs. Please contact the Ipswich Art Gallery if you require further information.
