Machine, Man explores the fragility of digital memory and the inevitability of technological obsolescence. Using a blend of obsolete media, interactive digital works and sculptural forms, the exhibition invites audiences to step into the body of a cyborg, part flesh and part machine.
Through this immersive environment, the works interrogate our shifting relationship to memory, ownership and legacy. Once we held physical copies of our photographs, music and films; now, our cultural memory is outsourced to platforms with uncertain futures. Just as the human body fights, mutates and ages, the tools we use to document our lives do too.
Machine, Man reflects on how far technology has come in a short time, how quickly it recedes into redundancy, and what it means for the stories and information we wish to pass on.
An Ipswich Art Gallery exhibition.
