Join our craft circle to meet, talk, and contribute a knitted or crocheted yellow square to a community engaged artwork, Conversation Piece by Kate Just.&nbsp;This work&nbsp;celebrates women’s histories of crafting textiles together around the world. This is a chance to enjoy time making together.

Add your piece of woven creation to a giant, communally knitted and crocheted yellow length of fabric that will travel around Australia as part of <a href="https://ipswichartgallery.qld.gov.au/exhibitions/residue-and-response-tamworth-textile-triennial">Residue + Response: Tamworth Textile Triennial.</a>

Participants will meet in the Ipswich Art Gallery foyer.&nbsp;





Skill level: All Welcome. This workshop is suitable for beginners.&nbsp;













Materials: Needles and wool supplied. If you would like to use your own needles, make sure they are between 3mm and 9mm in diameter.&nbsp;

Conversation Piece Craft Circle

As we unfold from the recent global events, we reflect on our connection with others, our shared history and possible futures. Curated by Dr Carol McGregor, Residue + Response showcases the best of textile art from across the country, and explores the premise of how the events of our past alter our values. Since the Tamworth National Fibre Textile Collection began in 1973, artists have interwoven and shared their lived experiences and negotiated stories through the materiality of textile practice. The 5th Tamworth Textile Triennial builds on this tradition with a future focus on the intangible essence of what it means to be human in the fabric of today’s society. It is an opportunity to celebrate Australian textiles practice, and for artists to create and explore the relationality and residues of change through a multiplicity of materials, methods and meanings.



This Textile Triennial is a celebration of 50 years of the National Textile Collection, promoting and sustaining the unique cultural heritage associated with both the history and technology of textile practice

Join Dr Carol McGregor and Kyra Mancktelow as they discuss textile art's capacity to challenge existing histories, build on traditions, and capture the residues and relationality of change in today's shifting society.&nbsp;
