Discover the beauty of one of the world's oldest painting media with artist Dr Bill Platz!

Learn how to create from scratch one of the oldest, most beautiful and permanent paints — egg tempera — with Dr Bill Platz.

Using simple ingredients including eggs, water, and natural pigments, you will make your own drawing materials and learn techniques for using them. You will then have the opportunity to experiment with this medium while drawing from a posing, clothed model.

Skill level: This workshop is suitable for beginners.

What to wear: Please wear closed-in shoes and workshop-friendly clothing. BYO apron should you require it.

Materials: All materials are provided.

The workshop will include a 30 minute lunch break to socialise with the other attendees. No meals included, participants can BYO lunch with a fridge available for use. 

Please meet at the Ipswich Art Workshop, in d'Arcy Doyle Place.

Note: This workshop is not suitable for anyone with an egg allergy.

ARTIST BIO

Dr Bill Platz

Dr William Platz is Head of Drawing at the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University. Dr Platz was born and educated in New York. He received his BFA from Pratt Institute and his MA from Regents College (Excelsior). In 2012, Mr. Platz completed a PhD in Fine Art at Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia. Dr. Platz has been teaching studio art, art history and art theory for over twenty years. His research interests are focused on life drawing, portraiture and artist/model transactions. His previous faculty appointment was in the Fine Art department of The Southwest University of Visual Arts in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Dr. Platz currently resides in Brisbane, Australia. He exhibits regularly in the US and Australia—his work is held in private and public collections.

The Art Workshop is located in d’Arcy Doyle Place in a separate building to the Ipswich Art Gallery. The closest entrance is via Limestone & Nicholas Streets. Located next to the Ipswich Community Gallery.
