Discover the creative possibilities of collagraph printmaking in this hands-on workshop with artist Prita Tina Yeganeh.

Prita will introduce participants to the creative possibilities of collagraph printmaking—an accessible and experimental process that transforms everyday materials into richly textured printing plates. Using cardboard and found materials, participants will learn how to build a collagraph plate through layering, cutting, and assembling surfaces to create unique images and patterns.

Once the plates are complete, participants will learn how to ink their designs and print them using Ipswich Art Gallery's in-house printing press. The workshop will introduce the fundamentals of plate construction, inking, and printing, providing an accessible entry point into contemporary printmaking practices.

Suitable for beginners, this workshop offers an opportunity to experiment, play, and learn a versatile process that can be continued at home using simple materials.

Participants will leave with their own handmade collagraph plate and an original print.

This masterclass is inspired by Ipswich Art Gallery's upcoming exhibition, Ties that bind, Sat 27 June to Sun 6 September 2026.

What to wear: Please wear closed-in shoes and workshop-friendly clothing.

What to bring: Lunch, a water bottle, and an apron.

Participants are invited to bring a small selection of materials, textures, or images that connect them to a place that is meaningful to them. This may include leaves, twigs, fabric, lace, string, textured papers, photographs, drawings, or reference images that can inspire the development of their collagraph design.

Items included in the printmaking process must be thin (under 1-2mm) and not sharp, in order to not to damage the printing press.

Materials: All Materials are provided.

The workshop will include a 30 minute lunch break to bring or grab a meal and socialise with the other attendees.

Please meet at the Ipswich Art Workshop, in d'Arcy Doyle Place.
